Turpin Landscape and Pool
Cameron Residence
Location: Aylmer, Québec
Project Dates: 2006 - Under Construction
Task: To design a pool and various outdoor gathering/eating areas for entertaining at an existing house on the Ottawa River. The client, who owns a company that develops sophisticated metal/glass envelopes for large commercial buildings, requested the innovative use of his materials.

Design Challenge

The client's desire in terms of the design was clear: to "erase the boundary between the interior space of the existing living room, a small yard between the existing house and the river, and the river itself".

Design Solution

The solution was to create a negative-edge (glass) pool looking out over the river, but, moreover, to flood the entire yard and have the gathering areas become islands that are connected with changeable, lightweight aluminum walkways. To complement the extensive use of water and glass, the design incorporates materials that offer a sensual experience (varying textures of granite, textile privacy screens, and still-water lighting).
